Abstract:

Four new aculeatusquinones A-D (1-4) and five known compounds, (5aS,6S,7S)-3,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-1,4,6,9-tetramethyl-6,7-dihydro-5aH-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepine-8,11-dione (5), 3,8-dihydroxy-1,4,6,9-tetramethyldibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-11-one (6), 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid (7), atraric acid (8), and 2,5-dimethyl-1,3-benzenediol (9), were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Aspergillus aculeatus. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including one- and two-dimensional NMR and high-resolution mass spectrometric analyses. Two new compounds (2 and 4) showed cytotoxic effects on the HL-60, K562, and A-549 cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 5.4 mu M to 76.1 mu M.
