Abstract:
Pluronic F68 is a poly (ethylene oxide) - poly (propylene oxide) - poly (ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer (indicated as (EO) x - (PO) y - (EO) x with x = 76 and y = 29). Experimental results showed that F68 formed micelle at 50 °C. The micellar core consisted of 80% PO and 20% EO components. The hydrophilic PEO blocks extended into the surrounding aqueous solvent, forming a 'corona' around the core. The intrinsic viscosity of F68 micelle at 50 °C was determined to be 11.6 cm3 · g-1 and the weight of hydrating water per g of solute was 3.6 g. Solubilization of naphthalene, anthracene and pyrene in F68 aqueous micellar solutions at 50 °C was investigated by UV - spectra measurements. The results showed that the partition coefficients (Kv) of naphthalene, anthracene and pyrene between the micelle and water were 2.54 × 102, 7.94 × 102 and 8.74 × 102 respectively.
